- Cultivating strong, values-based leadership within our organization
OUR GOVERNANCE
The AAHP’s governance structure ensures transparency, democracy, and accountability. Every two years, AAHP members gather at our Biennial General Meeting (BGM)—the highest governing body of our union. At our BGMs, Members have the opportunity to amend our Constitution and By-Laws, debate and address key issues and review our progress and shape future priorities.
Between BGMs, the AAHP Board of Directors serves as the union’s governing authority. Composed of 13 volunteer members, the Board is elected by the membership every two years to oversee AAHP operations, establish strategic priorities and policies and ensure our union remains committed to its mandate.
OUR LEADERSHIP
AAHP’s leadership is made up of our Board of Directors, On-Site Representatives, and Staff—a dedicated team working to support members’ needs and priorities. Together, they strengthen our services, benefits, and governance processes to ensure the AAHP continues to thrive. OUR HISTORY
Founded in 1975 by 91 Allied Health Professionals, AAHP was established to represent professionals in physiotherapy, occupational therapy, pharmacy, dietetics, and social work. Recognizing their shared community of interest with each other based on their training, certification and professional ethics, they formed an independent union to advocate for their unique needs. Key milestones:
- August 1975 – The Newfoundland and Labrador Labour Relations Board formally certifies AAHP as a bargaining agent.
- Growth & Expansion – AAHP continues to evolve, now representing 850+ members across 25+ allied health professions.
- A Union of Integrity – Today, AAHP is known for its credibility, professionalism, and unwavering commitment to members.
